Hunt Outcomes & Success Stories

The Hunts Behind HuntactX

Before HuntactX existed, the knowledge behind it was built in the mountains guiding hunters out west.

Years of guiding experience, working with Jackson Outfitters, and helping hunters pursue big game has shaped the strategies used inside HuntactX today.

These are real hunts and real outcomes from the field.

Colorado Mule Deer — Guided Hunt

Brandon came west looking for his first mule deer. The goal was a mature buck and a hunt that matched his ability and expectations.

After selecting the right unit and timing the hunt with pre-rut movement, the plan came together.

Outcome
• Mature mule deer buck harvested
• Guided hunt with Jackson Outfitters
• Strategic unit and timing selection

Colorado Elk | MUZZLELOADER

Colorado’s muzzleloader season takes place right in the middle of the elk rut. Bulls are vocal, aggressive, and actively gathering cows, which can make for some of the most exciting hunting of the entire season. At the same time, muzzleloader hunts require getting close and making the most of limited shooting opportunities.

The strategy on this hunt focused on locating bugling bulls early each morning and working into position using the terrain and wind to stay undetected. After several close encounters and hearing multiple bulls across the basin, one herd bull began responding aggressively to calls and started working closer.

Using the cover of dark timber and the chaos of the rut, the hunter slipped into range as the bull pushed cows through a small opening. When the moment came, the hunter made a solid shot with the muzzleloader. After a short recovery, the bull was on the ground and the work of packing him out began.

Outcome
• Mature bull elk harvested
• Colorado muzzleloader season during the rut
• Guided hunt with Jackson Outfitters

Colorado Elk | Archery

Early archery elk season in Colorado is one of the most exciting times to hunt the mountains. Bulls are beginning to respond to calls, herds are still active in summer patterns, and the hunt often turns into a chess match between bugling bulls and patient hunters.

On this hunt, the strategy focused on covering country early in the mornings and evenings while locating vocal bulls. After a few days of working through several drainages and getting into multiple bugling elk, the hunter finally got the opportunity we had been waiting for.

Using calling to pull the bull closer through dark timber, the hunter was able to slip into range and make a clean shot on a bull.

Outcome
• Bull elk harvested
• Colorado archery season
• Guided hunt with Jackson Outfitters

Alaska Moose | DIY Hunt

Some of the most valuable lessons in hunting come from doing it yourself.

One of my most memorable hunts was a DIY moose hunt in Alaska. It required a lot of planning, understanding the terrain, coordinating logistics, and preparing for the kind of remote conditions that Alaska is known for.

Once in the field, the hunt became a test of patience and persistence. Long days were spent glassing openings, calling into thick country, and still hunting through swampy terrain.

After days of grinding it out and staying committed to the plan, everything finally came together when a bull responded to calling and gave me the opportunity I had been working toward.

Outcome
• DIY Alaska moose hunt
• Remote wilderness conditions
• Extensive planning and logistics
